Three VIIIs competed in Torpids.
1st VIII - starting 2nd in Div 3, going on to win blades. Although they didn’t bump on the last day, they bumped 4 times by bumping twice on the 1st day (by bumping the 1st crew in div 3 then going on as the sandwich boat to bump the last crew in div 2).

2nd VIII (originally started as the 4th VIII in rowing on) - this may seem strange but the 4th VIII was a schools crew with half the previous years 1st VIII, hence they got the fastest rowing on time of all the St. Anne's crews, changing to be the 2nd VIII. They had a relatively good Torpids with a couple of bumps.

3rd VIII - because the St. Anne's 2nd & 3rd VIIIs were bottom of Torpids the previous year, it meant all the fastest crews from rowing on that didn’t have provisional places were right behind the 3rd VIII. Needless to say things didn’t start well. The crew was bumped, over bumped and nearly over-over bumped on the 1st day. After that things improved and due to crashes/collisions in front they managed to get a couple of bumps themselves.

The original 2nd VIII failed to row on but went on to the final of the regatta for non-qualifying crews

There were 2 men's novice entries, both lost in the 1st round.
At least one of the boats made a good start but had multiple equipment failures mid-course. This was still in the era before the boat house was built (or had a boatman). We borrowed racks for the 1st VIII shells but all the other boats used to rest outside on trestles in the area that is now the boat house. Needless to say the equipment was not in great condition.

1st VIII -
2nd VIII - rowed on 3rd from last of the bottom division. Got bumped on the 1st day then spent the rest of the week being chased by the 3rd VIII for last place in Torpids. Had mild excitement on the 2nd day when they hit another crew that had managed to get themselves at right angles in the gut. Unfortunately the 'bump' didn't count as the crew they hit had already bumped out.

3rd VIII - was the last boat to qualify through rowing on. Rowed over every day (chasing the 2nd VIII for 3 days).
