The Society We have, as some of you are aware, already held our first events, with a barbecue and races in June 2001, and the christening of The Chief Gibbon, followed by the inaugural Men vs Women Chief Gibbon Cup Race in November 2001, which was won by the women. Our next social event is due to be a drinks evening, and plans are being made for a dinner at Eights, more summer rowing, and a trip to Henley Regatta. These are all due to become annual events. Newsletters like this one will also be sent out regularly, containing details of the current developments in the Boat Club, our successes in the regattas and bumps races, and future OARS’ events. The subscriptions paid (for details, see back page) will be used to contribute towards the purchase of new equipment for the current students, which OARS’ members will also be able to use out of term-time. Membership will be £20 per annum (£5 for the first year after leaving). The Society itself will be run by a committee consisting an honorary President, Honorary Secretary, and the current Boat club President. There will also, when we are more established, be members representing five year cohorts, who will have input into the committee. If you are interested in getting involved in any capacity, then please e-mail the Boat Club President. Nick Skea-Strachan (1996 History) |
